Nail Art: Talavera Mexican Tiles

nothing to disclose

Hey friends! If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen a sneak peek of today's look on Monday...yep, that's when I painted this! Unfortunately, work and life and trying to stay in some shape other than blob caused me to not have much time during the week for editing of any sort. So here we are, 6 days later ;)

Art Deco Vibe - a Daniel Wellington, Classic Black Sheffield Inspired Look

press sample

Hello my friends! I hope that where ever you are, you are having a great day :)

Today I've got a nail art look inspired by one of my favorite watch companies, Daniel Wellington! I have worked with them a few times in the past and I wear their watches almost daily. I love how classy and pulled together I feel when I wear them. They have become my go-to "jewelry"...if a watch can be that.

The latest one I have to share is from their new collection, Classic Black. The defining feature of the collection is a black watch face paired with various DW band styles. I chose the Classic Black Sheffield as I loved the sleek pairing of black on black. The touch of rose gold in the hands and numbers warm the look up and I love it.

Spell Polish - Time Traveling Collection: Swatches & Nail Art

press sample

Hello my friends! I have a new to me collection to share with you today - the Time Traveling Collection by Spell Polish! I have been so busy lately but I've been dying to share these. This fall collection is inspired by memories from the past and I love that, while the memories are personal to Heather, the lady behind Spell Polish, they are also universal in one way or another and things that each of us can relate to in our own way.

I did not realize until working with Heather, that she writes poems to coincide with each shade. She then includes a cute little trading card with the polish name and poem with each polish purchased. How cool is that? So let's get started and take a look at the Time Traveling Collection!

press sample

Hello, all! I hope your weekend has gone well! I had quite a day yesterday competing in a challenge at my gym (I took 3rd place, yay!), but now I'm exhausted and sore from the hours of events! Feeling pretty proud of myself though as I never thought I'd be able to do what I did!

I have a great group of polishes to share with you all today from a new to me brand (and new to the US), called By Dany Vianna! Dany is a Brazilian indie maker specializing in fab glitter combos and beautiful packaging (I have pictures of that below!). She has been quite the hit in her home country and has recently begun working with DRK Nails to stock her polish so that the rest of the world can have access to them! I have four of her polishes to share today so let's take a look!

Delush Polish - Scream Supreme, American Horror Story: Swatches, Review, and Nail Art

Press Sample

Hello, all! Wow, it has been awhile since I've blogged and I've been missing it so much. I've been crazy busy with work and personal life and I am in serious need of this weekend to get stuff taken care of get back on track. Today I've got swatches of 4 polishes from the Delush Scream Supreme collection to get back into my groove!

All the polishes in this collection are inspired by the TV Series American Horror Story, and while I've only watched the first and second season, I can totally appreciate each and every one of these shades and their inspiration.

I love how fun the polishes are and I think they're great for fall and beyond. These polishes are stunning on their own, but I also couldn't resist doing a bit of nail art with each polish :) Let's read through and see more swatch goodness!

Dermelect Bejeweled Collection for Fall/Winter - Swatches, Review & Nail Art...plus a contest opportunity!

Hello, all! Hope you had a wonderful weekend! I've got a review of the new Dermelect Bejeweled collection for Fall & Winter to share with you today! As the name might suggest, the Bejeweled collection is inspired by precious stones, particularly, garnet, a patinated finish, sapphire and quartz.

I've never tried this brand before but I'm really loving the formulas on these. While they are 3-Free and cruelty free, these polishes also boast nail strengthening properties which is always welcome to someone like me. If I can find a polish that strengthens while I wear it, I want it. Being able to remove that extra step of a separate nail strengthener makes a world of difference for me. Anyhow, let's take a look!

Majolica inspired flowers

Oh, hey! Did you guys know I like painting flowers? You didn't?? Huh, I would've thought you'd know by now ;)

I'm going to call tonight's flowers Spanish inspired. There are some really beautiful painted plates, bowls and tiles that have vibrant colors and clean, yet detailed designs. My parent's have quite a few platters and serving bowls in this style and I have always loved them. This is the style I am referring to...and if I am way off on the name of the style, please let me know! :)

Edit to add: I just found out this style is called Majolica!

Regardless of the name, this style of painting inspired tonight's look. The base color is yet again OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls, with six other colors creating the flowers (let me know if you're curious about one of the colors).

April Nail Art Challenge - Flowers

Apparently it's already April?! When did that happen?? Ever since I've graduated from College, I feel like time is speeding by. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I no longer have quarters keeping track of my life.

Anyway, April means a brand new nail art challenge! Aren't you all excited? I know I am. I am really excited for the themes this month as well - galaxy, earth day, and braided are particularly exciting since I have yet to do anything like those yet.
The first theme is flowers and if you've been following me lately, you'll notice that I've had an ever growing obsession with painting flowers. Needless to say, I was stoked to dig into this challenge :)

I am really loving the look of a light background and then pops of color with my flowers so, while I've done this is the past, I think these are still unique enough from other designs I've done. I'm really digging the color combo and I honestly can't stop staring at them! :D Isn't it great when that happens?

Spring/Easter Nail Art!

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had a chance to post OR do my nails! Such a sad day when I'm too tired to do my nails :( with Easter just a few days away, I figured I would get a spring time Eastery theme in before it was too late. I have seen quite a few different Easter manis, a lot of them incredibly adorable! Many of them incorporated bunnies into their art so I decided to go a slightly different direction. While I still have the Easter Eggs, I used chicks as my easter animal instead of bunnies :)

I created these with two of my dotting tools and my trusty striping brush. I used....17 polishes...OH MY. I think that may be a record for me! The base color for this look is Julep's Susie which is a lovely light mint color. It reminds me a bit of China Glaze's Re-fresh Mint. I was a bit disappointed with the application of Susie, but the color is fab.

Hodge Podge Flowers

I am loving all the spring colors I'm seeing around as of late and have especially loved wearing them on my nails. However, I have done some sort of pastel color for the past few manis and I'm a little burnt out on those hues. I decided to mix it up slightly and use some deeper colors for today's look. I'm really excited to show you how it turned out!

I used OPI's Skull and Glossbones as my base color and I am fairly positive that this will become a regular in my rotation of polishes. I really love how fresh and clean it feels on its own. I ended up using 5 additional colors to complete the flowers. I really love how these colors go together -- one of my favorite combos :) I would tell you the names of said colors but there are a lot of them and the bottles are all the way in the other room...and I'm lazy so it's not going to happen right now ;) Let me know if you're curious about a particular color and I can get you the info on it!

The Hungry Asian Kiwi Smoothie & Rectangles!

Hiya, everyone! Hope your Friday is going wondrously! I spent my Friday night nail artin' it up. I'd like to say that normally my Fridays are much more exciting than just painting my nails...but who am I kidding?? This is my normal and I love it :D

Yesterday I received my order of The Hungry Asian polishes and oh my goodness! I am in love with all of them! I absolutely LOVE sheer cremes with glitter in them and all the polishes I ordered were just that. The first one I tried was Kiwi Smoothie and I was not disappointed. I absolutely adore this polish and am regretting not buying a full size bottle of it. It's that amazing. Take a look.

Four-Leaf Clover Tutorial

I'm really excited to share this with you all! I finally made my first tutorial!! Aren't you excited!? ;)

I ended up doing a quick tutorial of the color blocking clover I did from today, and while I'm incredibly awkward and terrible at explaining what I'm doing, I had a blast creating this video. I can't wait to put together another video to share with you all. Let me know what you think and I would love to hear comments and suggestions for tutorials to come. I'm still figuring out iMovie so bear with me...the video is still a bit sad ;)
Here's the tutorial! Be nice...
Here is the look I created.

March Nail Art Challenge - Day 3: Gradient

Okay, so I suck at keeping to a schedule. But I think I have a worthy excuse! I have been so busy studying for a big engineering test every weekend all day long on top of working all week. No days off makes for little time for nail art.

I finally got around do doing the 3rd installment of the March Nail Art Challenge (though, I was supposed to start the 4th one today...oops!). The theme was gradient and I wanted to use two more of my new Julep Polishes to create the look. I ended up pairing Georgia, a pretty peach micro shimmer, with Susie, a muted mint green creme. These were colors I wasn't 100% sure would look nice together in a gradient, but I'm really happy with them! A happy surprise :)

Julep's Taylor and Dandelions

In February I joined the Julep Maven program where for $20/month you get at least 2 polishes, one extra item (sometimes another polish) and one small free gift. I actually tried the first month free using the code FREEMAVEN at checkout. It might still work so give it a go if you're interested! So far, I have been so happy with this program! The packaging, marketing, products, everything has been great. I actually feel like I'm getting something great for my 20 bucks. For the March box I got two polishes, some awesome smelling and non-greasy hand lotion, and some great chapstick. I definitely feel like I got more than $20 worth of product and I'm really excited to see what comes next for this program :)

Anyway, totally got side tracked, BUT the reason I mentioned this program, is that because I paid for my March subscription box, I was privy to a "Secret Sale" by Julep and OH MY GOSH this was worth paying for the box! Normally, Julep polishes run for $14/bottle...well, this sale had sets of 3 and 5 for $12.99 and $17.99 respectively. WHAT!? So, naturally, I bought a 3 and 5 set and am in love! So excited!

The polish that really spoke to me from my new lovelies is Taylor, a fabulous deep, sky blue creme that I am so in love with! I added some simple dandelion's with OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls (I actually ordered a new bottle of this tonight!) using my striping brush. They were really quick and easy but I absolutely love how these look!

My friend is celebrating her birthday tonight (Friday) and I'm super excited to go out with these on! Fun and bright and fun...and bright!

Mosaic Flowers!

Alright, I guess I can officially say that based on my past few manis I am completely ready and/or excited about spring colors! Tonight's look is keeping with that theme. Somehow I ended up with what I would call mosaic patterns on my nails and I'm really loving how they turned out. They definitely are not perfect (I mean, those big photos and all make it hard to hide any flaws D: ), but I love how they look on my fingers. Imperfect perfectness!

These are pretty simple to create. I did something similar to my Stained Glass Nails and began creating my pattern with my white striper. I then went back in with my different colors and from there it was just coloring in the lines. I thought about going back over the white lines again, but I like that it's not perfect. Anyway, happy almost-ish spring! :D

Re-fresh Mint Chevrons

I've got something super quick and dirty for you all today. It's using one of my absolute favorite new colors, China Glaze's Re-fresh Mint. I think this is just the perfect robin's egg blue and perfect for spring. Only slightly obsessed ;) I wanted to show off this color so I went with a super simple white chevron on both my ring fingers as an accent. I'm loving the simplicity of this :)

Water Lilies!

I set out tonight thinking I was going to do the Candy theme for February's Nail Art Challenge...however, I found this amazing water lily painting in the style of impressionism and I knew I had to try to recreate it. So, sorry if you were looking forward to the Candy theme, but I just couldn't resist!

In total, I used 14 different polishes for this mani! That may be a new record for me! I thoroughly enjoyed painting this, likely because as I managed to roughly execute what I wanted. It could very easily have been a frustrating endeavor. I apologize in advance for the ridiculous number of photos I took of this mani...

Some spring time colors...because I said so!

I had such a clear vision of what I was going to create tonight that I was positive I would have no problem executing what I saw in my mind's eye. However, I came to find out that my brain and hands were not on speaking terms tonight and what ended up on my nails, while similar in concept and colors, is no where near what I had originally intended. That being said, I really love how this turned out! I am so ready for these bright colors and I love what I see when I look down at my fingers. I may have ended up at Sally's today to partake in their Orly sale and maybe I bought China Glaze's Re-fresh Mint and maybe I felt like I was going to explode if I didn't get this stunning color on my fingers immediately. After that, Lime Crime's Creme de Limon and L'OREAL's New Money began their incessant begging to be used with their new friend. Yes, I am personifying my nail polish. No, that's not weird.
