Sally Hansen - Insta-Ombre: Swatches & Review

press sample

Happy Wednesday, all! I have a quick post today with some new fun polishes by Sally Hansen to share today! When I first saw these Insta-ombre polishes I was so excited! The concept is that you use the glitter in various layers to build up a gradient/ombre effect.

Basically, you start with one coat over the full nail, then the next coat covers about 2/3 of the nail, and the final coat covers just a 1/3rd of the nail. So as you move down your nail, the coverage gets built up and the ombre look is created. Pretty cool!

Grey-diant is a gunmetal grey glitter and at first I thought it wasn't going to work well to create a gradient/ombred look. However, as promised, after 3-4 coats extending down my nail, I ended up with a gradient! This is definitely more subtle, but I like how it turned out.

Gold Grade is the gold version of the insta-ombre polishes and it's probably the least effective of the bunch only because it's slightly too dense for the first coat. Regardless, it's still a pretty look. Shown is 3 layers.

Cobalt Coat is a silver and blue glitter ombre polish and while it's a pretty mix of glitters, it's not super effect as a gradient. Where Gold Grade was slightly too dense in glitter, this one isn't dense enough. I wasn't able to build up enough opacity at the tips of my nails to make this look like an ombre/gradient. Shown is 4 passes with the glitter.

Overall, I'm slightly disappointed in these. I wish the glitter was a bit dense so that it built up better. I think Grey-diant was the more effect finish, with Gold Grade following after that. The formulas were easy enough to work with though!
