40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Geeks

nothing to disclose

Hi, everyone! This Friday and Saturday marks week 3 of our epic series, 40 Great Nail Art Ideas! This week we're doing a themed manicure instead of the color + pattern combo that we did last week.

So, we're all tackling the theme of geeks! Now, this can be interpreted in many different ways. It could be the classic geek...pocket protector, taped glasses, super smart, geek...or maybe something that we "geek-out" on...TV series, games, activities, etc. that the lay person my deem geeky.

Aside from nail art, I really enjoy playing video games and computer games when I have the time. I've played World of Warcraft off and on for years and growing up I spent hours playing Spyro on our classic Playstation 1! However, there is one game that still holds a place in my heart...Super Mario Brothers.

Now, I wasn't actually alive for the original game release on the NES console, but my parents bought my sister and I Game Boys one Christmas with game and I played it so much that I dreamed in the world of Mario and Luigi!

I'm pretty happy with how these turned out! I think (hope) it's a pretty recognizable image, and while I know there have been variations of this done in nail art before, I think it's still in my style to an extent. All around, these were just fun to paint!

I started with a base of Cirque's Monte Carlo (who knew that was the perfect Super Mario Bros background blue!?) and then painted the brick ground and blocks with acrylic paint. I added the bushes, clouds and their respective details, as well as the block details after that. Then I tackled the scariest parts, the goomba, the mushroom, and Mario. I did all of this with acrylic paints.

Mario was pretty tricky to get and he's a bit more abstract than I hope he'd be. And ugh! The thumb text! That was really tough. I ran out of room right quick and had to squish everything together.

And I of course mattified to make it look more like the game. So here it is, my take on Geeks. I know it could probably be argued that this isn't especially "geeky" but it's something that I used to geek out on growing up and something that I can still sit down and geek out on as well.

Let me know what you think and be sure to check out the other ladies' manis for geek week below!

Happy Polishing :)
