Gunpowder Lacquer - Sunshine & Whiskey Collection: Swatches, Review, & Nail Art

press sample

Hello, all! I have a great new set of summer shades from the recently opened Gunpowder Lacquer to share with you all today! Gunpowder Lacquer was started by the sweet Carly (a college student!) and her fishing partner and best friend Jason.

Since Carly is a country girl, she wanted to create a brand that helped to express her girly, yet was still tough and able to withstand the daily grind of life. I grew up raising animals and lived in a rural area and I truly miss the "country" part of where I grew up so this collection really spoke to me. So, without further ado, here is the Sunshine & Whiskey Collection!

Floatin Trailer Park is a soft aqua polish with a subtle holo and a scattering of blue shimmer. Very pretty hue and very wearable. The formula was a tad thick to work with, though still very manageable and shown is 2-3 coats depending on how I applied for each nail.

Drivin Me Paisley is a neon pink shade with a subtle holo and a blue and fuchsia shimmer mixed in. I like this color for summer a lot! The formula was alright, though I needed 3 coats to make everything nice and smooth.

Crazy Ex-GF is a barbie pink holo that is slightly sheer so I needed 3 coats to hide my visible nail...but that's no problem for me! I know I'm going to like this one on my toes and if I'm feeling bold maybe even on my fingers for a fun night out ;)

Sundaze is a neon coral/orange with a subtle holo and a smattering of gold shimmer. Love this one! Perfect for this time of year for sure and I like the formula on this one a lot. Shown is 3 coats to hide the visible nail line. I like that this isn't traffic cone orange and much more wearable.

MMIM (Meet Me in Margaritaville) is a neon green with subtle blue and gold shimmer. It is BRIGHT which I love and a perfect lime green shade. Shown is 2 easy coats.

Till I Sea You Again is lovely blue crelly with a nice strong holo and definitely a great staple shade to have. This is one of those polishes where the color intensifies with more coats and I really love how this looks with 3 coats.

Little Red Wagon is in fact red wagon red and it's a beauty! It's packed with holo goodness and it's a nice squishy jelly. Really great formula on this one and shown is 3 coats (though 2 probably would have been fine!).

Overall, this is a nice, strong first collection. There are some great summer shades as well as a few that will transition nicely into fall and even winter. While a lot of these are on the thicker side, Carly has told me that my batch of polishes were thicker than those that she has recently reformulated so there shouldn't be any issues with that now.

I also want to note the adorable packaging that these came in. Carly wrapped them in a cute drawstring bag, decals, cute business cards, and a great little wooden masonjar dongle with the Gunpowder Lacquer logo burned in. All around, just really professional and appealing.

At the moment, this entire collection is sold out...but don't fret! On Thursday, July 30 at 1pm, the entire collection will be restocked! These sold out FAST the first time around so if you like any of these shades, don't miss out.
