The Digital Dozen does Summer - Day 1: Stargazing Nail Art

Nothing to Disclose

Hello, all! Guess what week it is!? Yup, the best week of each month - Digital Dozen time! We're spending the week coming up with Summer themed manis and I'm planning on tackling some of my favorite summer time memories this week. I'm starting things off with one of my favorite summer time activities, stargazing!

While this isn't strictly a summer time thing, I have fond memories of stargazing in my parent's yard on a balmy summer evening. Where I'm from, there is very little light pollution so the night sky is absolutely incredible and awe inspiring to behold. I wish everyone everywhere could experience the humbling experience of looking at the vast universe.

So, if you can't tell, this is supposed to be a couple sitting in a field stargazing with the guy pointing to a constellation. Unfortunately, my base night sky is just a bit too dark and the contrast between the black silhouettes and the night sky just doesn't pop like I was hoping. I had initially wanted to do scene looking through some trees (which is what I would see at my house growing up), but I stumbled upon this deviant art image and loved the simplicity of it.

I started with a base of OPI's OPI...Eurso Euro and then sponged on a few layers of OPI's Incognito in Sausalito, China Glaze's Fade into Hue and Zoya's Sunshine. I added a some white dots in acrylic paint to simulate all the stars and then painted the grass and the couple with black acrylic paint. I really liked how deep and vibrant these looked with a top coat on, but I could not get a good shot of these with that shiny coat! I ended up mattifying (as you can see) so that you could make out the black better. Anyway, here it is with the shiny top coat since I thought it was so pretty that way :)

What do you think of this? Are you able to do any stargazing where you live? I miss it now that I've moved to a big city! Be sure to check out the inlinkz below to see what the rest of the Digital Dozen ladies have done this week!

Happy Polishing :)
