The Digital Dozen does Metal - Day 2: Bender

Nothing to Disclose

Hold onto your seats (or maybe you read this blog while standing, so hold onto...your feet?)! I've actually managed to come up with a Day 2 mani for Digital Dozen Metal week! I know, it's astounding. I did warn you, didn't I? ;)

If you've never watched the off-color (and hilarious) show, Futurama, you might be a bit confused by today's mani. Futurama is set in the future (the year 3000 and on) and features a pizza delivery guy who manages to accidentally cryogenically freeze himself for 1000 years. He wakes up in New New York and has to make his way in the future. Along the way, he meets Bender, the robot who's sole job is to bend things.

So, since I enjoy the show so much, I figured painting Bender might be a fun way to tackle this challenge! He is a metal robot, who bends metal. It's metal-ception!

Now, I've already stated that Futurama is a bit crass more times than not, but Bender leads the parade. He is about as vulgar as you can get on cable tv and it's hilarious. He's always up in arms over something and doesn't bother to hide his anger. He is often cringe worthy, but humorous no less. One of his favorite come-backs to yell at people happens to be "Bite my shiny metal ASS!". So, naturally, I now have the word "ass" painted on my nails ;)

I wasn't sure what to paint on my pinky and I contemplated displaying Bender's cigar smoking and beer drinking habits, but I figured the intro background to the show would be the best way to balance everything out.

The white is OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls and bender is painted entirely with craft acrylic paints (Americana brand). The pinky uses Essie's Strut Your Stuff, Zoya's Blue and OPI's Keeping Suzi at Bay. I also ended up mattifying this to try and give it more of a cartoony look and feel.

I'm actually pretty pleased with how this turned out. It's not something I would normally paint, but sometimes it's fun to paint a fowl mouthed robot on your fingers ;)

Happy Polishing :)
