31 Day Nail Art Challenge - Day 19: Galaxies

Hi all! Sorry I've been a bit MIA the past few days - I had a crazy work week and spent the day recovering from my lack of sleep throughout the week. Today I'm really excited to share the galaxy nails that I put together for the latest 31 Day Nail Art Challenge! Fair warning, this is a long post! ;) Stick around though, I'll love you forever for it!

Before I started these, I was kind of dreading having to do them. Not because I dislike how galaxy nails look, but because for me, they are really time consuming and I tend to over think the color blending. I struggle with when to stop adding color and often go too far and have to repeat my steps to get the look I'm going for. In the end though, as soon as I actually sat down, found my inspiration and got going, I thoroughly enjoyed doing these :)

Every time I see photos of our universe, my jaw drops a bit to see how stunningly beautiful it is. I ended up getting inspired by a bunch of different images and decided that I wanted to do different looking galaxies per finger. All the images I'm going to show below were found on 2 awesome sites (1 and 2) - the thumb image is from site number 1 and the rest are from site 2.
Because I used so many polishes (many on each nail), I'm going to share the polish by brand. If you're curious about a particular one color on a certain nail, let me know! Each nail has a base of Zoya's Storm - the perfect galaxy base.
China Glaze:
Dandy Lyin' Around - Passion for Petals - Call of the Wild - Charmed, I'm Sure - Purr-fect Plum - Life is Rosy -  Fade into Hue - Keep Calm, Paint On - Desert Sun - Queen B - Exotic Encounters - Kalahari Kiss - Call of the Wild - Mimosas Before Manis - Tart-y for the Party
Zoya:
Gemma - Avery - Livingston - Arizona - Hunter - Cynthia - Natalie
My awkward thumb!
If anyone is curious about how to create galaxy nails, there are tons of tutorials online. I just used a cut up makeup sponge and dabbed on layer upon layer, building the color from dark to light.
What do you think of these? Do you enjoy doing galaxy nails? While they are really time consuming and can easily go awry (for me at least!), I think they are a really awesome bit of nail art.

Happy Polishing :)

  2. Those look perfect! I am sure for a perfectionnist like you the manicures that require randomness are quite difficult, but you did a great job!

  10. I have always felt the same about galaxies - it's not as easy as it looks and it can take some time, but they're growing on me :)
