Themed Thursday - December 13: Gingerbread

nothing to disclose

Hey, all! I'm going to keep things short and sweet today because I am EXHAUSTED! I've been a painting and photo/video editing machine all weekend and let me tell you - it's a ton of work!

Today I've finally got my Themed Thursday post (special Sunday edition!) ready to share on time! It's a Christmas miracle! Today's challenge prompt was gingerbread! I went back and forth on whether I should paint gingerbread men or their houses...or both? Ultimately though, I got inspired by this print and decided to just go with all gingerbread houses! Besides, they're the fun part of winter desserts ;)

This was one of those manis that I was pretty sure could go either way - either it would rock and look even better than I imagined...or it was suck and look worse than I imagined. Fortunately, I feel that this looks better than I was anticipating!

I had originally though to use loads of different colors to spice up these houses, but in the end, I'm glad I went with a very similar and more subdued (albeit very Christmas-y) color palette.

I used a base of Zoya's Livingston and the rest was done with craft acrylic paint because that's just super easy. I finished everything up with a top coat. AND! Two in a row - I've got another tutorial to share with you! The video below show/explains how I did the house on my middle finger. The great thing about these houses though, they're super versatile and all you need to do know about them is their basic premise and then you can get creating your own unique looks.

I was playing around with the idea of adding falling snow in the red above the houses, but decided that would be too busy...but take a look at my thumb and let me know what you think?

Overall, I'm really pleased with how these turned out. While these aren't dripping in candy, I do think they're immediately recognizable as "gingerbread"! Be sure to check out the tag #themedthursdaydec to see what everyone else has created for this prompt!

Happy Polishing :)
