NAGG - Day 7: Primary Colors, Rose Nail Art

Hi, all! I've got my latest Nail-Art-A-Go-Go mani to share today! The theme this time around was "Primary Colors" meaning red, yellow and blue. Primary colors are rough to work with in my opinion. Outside of baby products, they just don't really do it for me so I wasn't really looking forward to this prompt. I browsed online for awhile but found nothing particularly exciting related to primary colors.

As I've mentioned before, I love being inspired by patterns and prints and my favorite go-to resources are catalogues. I especially love Sundance and decided to flip through one of the recent catalogues sent to me and I came across a PRIMARY COLORED ROSE shirt! It was basically fate. The polish gods opened up the heavens and combined floral (my favorite!) and this theme.

While I typically think of very vibrant shades of red, yellow and blue when I think of primary colors, these still fall into that category I'd say. I like that they are a bit more down to earth than the traditional glaring primary shades. And I would never have thought to do blue leaves all on my own, but man, I do love it! I'll have to mix it into nail art in the future.
I used a base of OPI's Skull and Glossbones (which I need a new bottle of!) and used acrylic paints for the roses and leaves. I started with the darkest shades of both the red and yellow and then built up the different layers of color to create the roses. Once I was done painting the roses and leaves, these were feeling a bit empty so I added in some random white dots for good measure. Perhaps an abstract take on baby's breath? ;)
While I love painting flowers, roses are a huge struggle for me. I don't know how to make them look realistic and I'm never completely satisfied with how they come out. It's just one of those things I'll forever be working to improve.
What do you think of these? Hopefully I've presented a different take on primary colors. Be sure to check out the inlinkz and Mireia's look once she has it up as well :)

Happy Polishing :)
