The Digital Dozen does Black & White - Day 5: Birds on a Wire

I want to begin tonight's post with a thank you to all the ladies of the Digital Dozen! Thank you so very much for allowing Meghan and I to join you for this wonderful experience! While I struggled some nights with the theme (apparently you're not supposed to procrastinate on these!?) I completely enjoyed this challenge! I've loved getting to know you all over the past month and I can't wait for all the future endeavors to come :) Thank you for bringing me into the fold and for being so kind and supportive - it means the world to me <3

So, you'd think that on the final challenge of the black and white week I would definitely stick with black and white, right? Well I'm not really sure what happened, but my simple birds on a wire concept turned into a slightly more colorful version than I was expecting. Also, I think some of my birds are a bit...dog like? Haha!
I had originally planned on doing a simple white background with black birds knowing I'd be golden for the black and white theme. And then I remembered the grunge technique I used for my recent dreamcatcher nails and I sort of got carried away with the background.
I started with a white base and then sponged on OPI's Can't Find My Czechbook at normal opacity in some areas and then diluted it with polish thinner as sponged it in others. I repeated this method with Zoya's Flynn until I had a randomly sponged blue/tan background. Then, with my black polish diluted, I sponged over the top of this, adding a darker line at the tip of my nail to add to the grunge affect. I started doing both black and white birds in hopes of salvaging the black and white theme a bit more, but white birds really don't work (tip for future birds on wire attempts!) so I switched to all black. I then used some semi-dry white polish to scrub in the clouds in the background.
While these aren't explicitly black and white, I do think they are neutral enough that they don't stray too far from this concept and my main artwork is still black and white. I asked the boyfriend and he said I was fine...yes, I'm letting the man who can't tell if his shirt is blue or black convince me of this...  ;)

Happy Polishing :)
