The Beauty Buffs - Stripes Trend

Yay! It's time for another Beauty Buffs post and this week we're giving the stripes trend a shot! Lately I've been seeing mixtures in stripes colors and directions so that was my inspiration for tonight's mani. I was directly inspired by this Tonya Taylor runway set and I really like how she combined the classic nautical blue and white stripe with bright summery shades as well as multidirectional stripes. All around, a really fresh take on stripes.
Now, I love stripes, don't get me wrong. But man they are a HUGE pain in my butt - and I think everyone's butt - to paint on nails. No matter how hard you try, it's pretty much impossible to get all of your lines perfectly perfect and it will cause you to lose your mind if you let it.
One trick I've found to help get a clean line is to go back over the base polish lines with my base color once I've removed the striping tape. I'm not sure how to explain it other than when you remove the striping tape, there is a slight lip that gets created between the taped polish colors and the base color. This provides a guide of sorts for your striping brush to flow smoothly down with little to no erratic paint lines. I don't know if that makes sense, but give it a shot and see how it helps clean things up.
I used a base of Essie's Urban Jungle (which I LOVE!) and several other polishes and acrylic paints. The pink is Essie's Haute in the Heat, yellow is American Apparel's Manila, Blue is OPI's Incognito in Sausalito and the teal is an Americana acrylic paint (and I need a polish color in this shade!). The grey and brighter blue are also Americana acrylics.
I think adding pops of color and changing up the direction of the stripes really helps add some interest and appeal to your classic stripe print and it's definitely something I'm enjoying seeing.
