Doctor Lacquer - Jingle X3, Holiday Collection: Swatches & Review

press sample

Hi, all! I have the new Doctor Lacquer Holiday themed collection, Jingle X3 to share with you all today! This is inspired by the characters of the movie Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer. I've review Doctor Lacquer a few times so I was excited to see the winter shades!

Now, I will say, when I first saw this collection out of context, I was super confused - haha! I was a bit perplexed by how this was a holiday collection. However, after being shown Rudolph and the Gang, everything came together for me!

The first five polishes in the collection are thermals, meant to change color in the bitter cold of winter. However, since I live in Southern California, my hands don't often get bone cold (and sorry guys, but I'm too big a wimp to leave my hands in an ice bucket for long!)...so because of that, I don't have colors that show the thermal shift. I've spoken with Angelyn (the genius behind Doctor Lacquer) about this and she said the color shift is meant to happen when it's very cold weather and will be a little bit of umph when you're feeling cold. I will mention the color it shifts to when cold though.
My Nose Glows is inspired by Rudolph himself and has a thermal base that shows taupe when warm and mauve to red when cold. It's packed with fine gold flakies and makes for a really pretty combo for day to day wear. Shown is 3-4 thin and easy coats.

Beyond the Stars is a light pink based glitter crelly with pink and magenta small hex and square glitters and a scattering of large pink circle glitters. This is another thermal that shifts from very light pink when warm to magenta when cold. Inspired by the reindeer, Clarice. Shown is 4 coats because I wanted to get it fully opaque.

The Most Wonderful Day of the Year is based on the Misfit Toys and the Christmas Tree and is another thermal that is a white light green and shifts to a darker green when cold. It's packed with tons of different types and colors of glitters including some medium yellow stars. So this is sort of an "everything but the kitchen sink" polish and I love that. It somehow just "works". Easy enough formula and shown is 3 coats.

To Be a Dentist is another thermal, this time inspired by Hermey the Elf. It's a pale yellow when warm and shifts to a brighter yellow when cold. It has lots of blue, red, yellow, green, and white glitters and is an intriguing shade to wear! When I put the top coat on this I really liked the look of it! Shown is 3 easy coats.

Peppermint Mine is bright, butter yellow thermal that shifts to an orange hue when cold. It's inspired by Yukon Cornelius and is packed with orange and blue glitters. This one is unlike anything I've seen before and I'm kind of digging it! Shown is 3 easy coats.

Would You Like to Be Me? is a misfit toy called Spotted Elephant and is a white glitter crelly with tons of pink, magenta, purple, and lavender glitters. This is a super girly and fun shade and something that could easily work for spring time as well. Shown is 3 coats.

The Official Sentry is based on the misfit toy, Charlie in the Box. It's a white glitter crelly with a mix of white, purple, and black hex, square, dot and diamond glitters. This is a fun, edgy shade that I would love to rock for New Year's! Shown is 3 easy coats.

Pull Up an Ice Block is inspired by Sam the Snowman and is a white glitter crelly with various shades of green glitters. It does have black bows and black mustache glitters included but they were a tiny bit tricky to get out of the bottle and then tricky to work with once on the nail. There is a bow on my ring finger and the mustache on my index. Shown is 3 coats.

Adorable not Abominable is based on the abominable snow monster, Bumble. It's a glitter bomb with purple hex and dot glitter as well as some white bar glitter. I've shown one coat of it over Cirque's Glitterati

Finally, we have Cookies and Milk, inspired by the big man himself, Santa Claus. It's a red and white glitter topper with round, thick bar, hex, square, and mini hex glitters. There are also some flower shapes glitters (like his beard), but I wasn't able to fish any of those out. Shown is 1-2 coats over Zoya's Honor.

Overall, this is probably the most unique collection you'll see this Winter and it's a fun take on a classic Christmas movie. I'm excited for when it starts showing on TV this season! It's fun that half the collection is thermal and if you live in a very cold climate it will add a little extra pizzaz to your mani. Which one is your favorite??

This entire collection will be available tomorrow, 11/13, from the Doctor Lacquer website (doctorlacquer.com) and you can purchase the shades individually or as an entire collection.
