Doctor Lacquer - Scubaloha Collection: Swatches, Review, & Nail Art

press sample

Hello, all! I have a fun new collection to share with you all today from Doctor Lacquer! The Scubaloha collection is a pastel hued glow in the dark collection and it's basically all my favorite shades of pastels piled into one fantastic collection. From the press release:

Scubaloha is a portmanteau of scuba and aloha! This collection consists of seven gorgeous glow-in-the-dark pastel cremes and one rainbow glitter topper! These sizzling summer polishes are named after gorgeous indigenous Hawaiian reef fishes.

All of these have varying glow strengths but all the polishes are quite lovely in regular light as well. Let's take a look!
Uhu Uliluli is a pastel purple glow in the dark shade named for Spectacled Parrotfish! This is a great shade of purple and one I think someone of any skin tone can pull off easily. Keep in mine that the pigment used to create the awesome glow in the dark effect also adds a lot of grit to the polish so it will dry with a matte, rough finish. It may have been my environment, but this was pretty thick on application so it took a little bit of finesse to get even coats. Shown is 2-3 coats.

Uhu Uliluli has a dark purple glow.

Kumu is a bright pastel pink glow in the dark shade inspired by the male white saddle goatfish! I was never much of a pink person, but pastel pinks like this make me so happy! The formula on this one was amazingly smooth and it had very little grit to it. Shown is 3 easy coats.

Kumu has a soft peach glow.

Lau Wiliwili is a soft pastel orange named for the Milletseed Butterfly fish. This is a lovely shade of orange! Almost like a sherbet, but not so bright and feels very wearable. The formula was great once again, and shown is 3 coats.

Lau Wiliwili has a bright neon yellow glow.

Nohu is a vibrant coral GITD that is based on the Titan Scorpion fish! I love this shade of coral for summer time (I mean, who doesn't love to look tan?!) and the formula on this one was really easy to work with. It was a bit sheer for the first few coats, but 4 thin coats got the job done nicely!

Nohu has a dark orange glow.

Hinalea Lauwili is a pastel spring green glowing shade inspired by the Saddle Wrasse. I'm such a sucker for greens and this is no exception. It's a great hue of green and for how bright it is, it's very easy to wear (and fun, too!). Shown is 3 super easy coats.

Hinalea Lauwili has a teal glow.

Lau'i Pala is a bright lemon yellow GITD named for the Yellow Tang fish! I love that this shade of yellow is more mild and not so vivid that you can't look at it for extended periods of time. The perfect pastel shade of  yellow. The formula was once again great and shown is 3 coats.

Lau'i Pala has a vibrant green glow.

Omilu is a soft pastel powder blue glow in the dark shade. This is named for the Bluefin Trevally and has the strongest glow of the whole collection and is one of my favorites. It's a staple shade and the fact that it's GITD is all the better. The formula was nice and shown is 3 coats.

Omilu has a vivid blue glow.

Lauhau is fun glitter topper to pair with the collection. These don't glow, but they're very whimsical and will look great on any of the polishes (or any other polish for that matter!). Shown is 1-2 coats over Omilu.

Overall, I really like this collection. While some of the colors are similar to those we've seen before, there are a few that are really unique to me and the fact that all these glow in the dark make these worth picking up over some other brands. My favorites are probably Lau Wiliwili, Nialea Lauwili and Omilu!

I also did some floral nail art with all the polishes...but I forgot to take a picture of it in normal lighting :( but I think it looks awesome in the dark!

You can purchase these polishes individually (or the entire Scubaloha collection) beginning tomorrow, 6/12, at 9pm EST! Be sure to follow Doctor Lacquer on your favorite social media site to stay up to date with the latest promotions and collections!
