The Digital Dozen does Monochrome - Day 1: Floral

Hi, all! How was your weekend? I spent a majority of it trying to catch up on sleep after an INSANELY long work week. Here's hoping this week treats me a bit better work wise...but blogging wise, it's going to be awesome! This is going to be a Digital Dozen filled week! Today not only marks the start of our awesomely awesome giveaway (have you entered yet?? You can do so here!), but also the beginning of Monochrome week!

For those who don't know, monochrome consists of either black and white or varying tones of only one color. Today's look, is in line with the second definition where I use varying tones of one color...and keeping with my love of floral patterns, I decided to do a simple monochrome floral look! I'm not feeling too hot tonight but I found an awesome floral print here and wanted to do my take on it immediately.

For this look, I used only 2 polishes: Julep's Gabrielle for the base, and Zoya's Megan as the lighter purple. If you look on Zoya's website, they claim that Megan is a taupe grey cream but every time I see it, I see a soft lavender (though I supposed some taupes have lavender undertones). Anyway! I really love this color combo together and hopefully this seems monochrome enough. I considered adding an additional purple tone to have a broader palette, but I ended up liking the simple contrast of these.
I think I mentioned in my last post that I recently purchased some new brushes to try from Michael's. I wasn't overly excited about a majority of the brushes they were selling so I decided to buy a 3/0 Simply Simmons spotter with the intent of trimming it down to a size I was happy with. Why they don't just make brushes readily available with only 5 bristles is beyond me ;)
I always get nervous trimming brushes and I've killed a number of them when I accidentally trimmed ALL the hairs off at once. Oops. This trimming ended up going well though and I think I was able to get fairly clean lines out of the brush. I'm thinking I'll probably end up trimming it a bit more but I'm going to live with it as is for a time just to make sure.
Whew! Day 1, done! Hope you all have a wonderful week and stop by tomorrow for the next look. Be sure to also check out the other Day 1 looks in the inlinkz below!

Happy Polishing :)
