Tonight I've got my second to last theme of the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge to share with you all. Today was "Inspired by a Tutorial" and I knew immediately which tutorial I wanted to do. My partner in crime through this whole challenge, Meghan over at Will Paint Nails For Food, recently did an AMAZING dreamcatcher tutorial that had a filtered look to it and was grungy and edgy and just fabulous. I knew I could never create anything as stunning as what she managed, but I thought I'd try my hand at it anyway!
I followed her steps as best I could, but the execution of those steps didn't always go as planned ;) While I do like these, I think I had a few problems that make them a bit "off."
I wish I had used a lighter palette for the background gradient - the colors I used are a tad too dark and because of this, the dreamcatcher and the black border don't stand out as well as I would have liked. I also struggled with creating the rough black border. I think I didn't dry my paint enough before adding in the line work so they are a bit too defined and crisp for my liking.
Regardless, I really love how these turned out. I added a matte top coat as Meghan did and I think it really pulls the whole look together. I would really loved to try this technique again where I thin down polish and add a faded/grungy look. Maybe over some flowers or something! I'll have to play with it :)
Be sure to check out Meghan's how-to on this look (and to see how this look is REALLY done!)
Happy Polishing :)
