Alright! I mentioned that I'd be posting often this week and Monday is the start of that! It's time for another week of Digital Dozen manis and this month marks the two year anniversary of The Digital Dozen! While I haven't been with these ladies from day one, I feel very much apart of this little family and I couldn't be more proud to call myself a member.
For this month, we asked our readers to help us come up with our theme. The general idea was to do manis revolving around the concept of the second anniversary gifts, the month of september, and "twos". For day one, we're tackling things that come in pairs! I've got to thank the lovely Laurie over at Dressed up Digits for the premise of today's mani since she was able to quickly rattle off a zillion different ideas in one of the groups mani conversations about this month's theme. She mentioned that "pairs" could be animals that mate for life...and so - since I love owls - I chose to paint barn owls!
When I think of owls, I always think of them living in the knot of an old giant oak tree so my barn owl couple, for better or worse, will be growing old together in this tree ;) I struggled a bit with painting the tree bark, but hopefully it's passable! The owls themselves weren't too tricky to paint, until I got to the eyes. Ugh, they were such a pain to paint! And I still don't feel I've gotten them as I'd like, but I still like this little couple :)
I started with a base of Essie's Fierce, No Fear on my thumb, index and pinky finger, and American Apparel's Hassid on my middle and ring finger. The owls were done with various acrylic paints and the tree bark was done with grey acrylic paints and Zoya's Codie (which is such a weird green brown, I'm not sure how I came to own it). I finished everything off with a matte top coat because mattifying is a way of life.
